Position Statement Regarding Cruelty Investigation of Cesar Millan

Earlier this year an episode of Cesar Millan’s National Geographic program “Cesar 911, featured a dog he was working with who had a history of killing the owner’s pot bellied pig. His method involved free exposure of the dog to a group of pigs in a penned area and resulted in injury to one of the pigs. Millan was investigated by Los Angeles Animal Control on accusations of animal cruelty. AVSAB has taken this opportunity to clarify our position on the use of punishment and how it effects the patient as well as animals used as “targets” in scenarios such as this.
